family, friends & Fish
Growing up in the Democratic Republic of Congo, my appreciation for eating wonderful recipes was influenced by my mother. She was a very resourceful woman who combined simple ingredients to make meals that brought us together as a family. When I immigrated to Canada, I found it difficult to purchase smoked and salted fish of my childhood because it was always out of stock in many stores. When It did I always made it a meal that involved having family, and friends: eating, talking, and being immersed in the African culture. As I frequented many African shops to find my smoked and salted fish, many shop owners were lamenting the fact that they couldn't get reliable and quality imports and that's why quantities were always limited. This gave me the idea of actually pursuing to obtain a fishing license because of the number of people who were being impacted by the shortages. My goal was to always empower other entrepreneurial women in Africa because my mother was one of those women. When I embarked on my journey to outsource organic, naturally smoked and salted fish, my goal is to partner, and support women who supply top quality fish.
